Irrigation District Boundary
The boundaries are generally based on parcel data which is based on the USDI Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB). The GCDB is a complex measurement management system that uses a least squares adjustment of existing survey data to come up with a digital representation of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). For more information on GCDB, see the Montana/North Dakota BLM website at http://www.mt.blm.gov/cadastral/gcdb/index.html. Accuracy varies between townships and it is important to note that the accuracy of the data can't be any more accurate than the GCDB.
The legal description of the Lockwood and Huntley districts references the banks of ditches/canals for boundaries. Because this information is not currently available in GIS, where applicable the parcel boundary was offset slightly to approximate the ditch bank.
For the Danford and Victory districts, a good portion of the boundaries lie outside Yellowstone County making it more difficult to define the boundaries due to available data sources. Some to the legal descriptions are very vague by only referencing the amount of acreage in a particular quarter section.
To delineate boundaries of all the Irrigation districts and identifly parcels w/in each district.

This data can be no more accurate than the GCDB data it is based on. The accuracy of the GCDB is variable. To find the digital accuracy of a GCDB township, download the township's file from http://www.mt.blm.gov/cadastral/pub/ and examine the .pgc file.
Victory Irrigation District
An expansion done in Mar '03 (see recorded documents in Clerk of District Court) referenced the new land (95% of it was in Big Horn County) in number of acres per quarter section and not by any "legal description" describing the boundaries. Looking at an aerial photography collected in the summer of 2005, I was able to determine where the area was and basically, outlined the area, making it a best guess on the amount of acres per quarter section.
Danford Irrigation District
Over half the district is in Carbon County and while the descriptions were good, the GCDB idoes not align with the aerial photography. I adjusted the district to better line up with the aerials, hence shifting it away from the GCDB.
